The Theatre Royal has a long and eventful history stretching back to the first
theatre on the current site, which opened in 1867. Since then the theatre has
been renamed by Queen Victoria, then reconstructed following two fires, then sold
to a television station before being bought back by Scottish Opera. Both Scottish
Opera and Scottish Ballet perform currently at the Theatre Royal, along with other
groups including the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal National Theatre.
Glasgow's Theatre Royal is located on Hope Street, close to the Royal
Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (RSAMD), and within easy walking distance
