Loch Lomond & The Trossachs
Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park was opened Princess Anne in July 2002,
and covers nearly 2000 sq km of the finest scenery in Scotland. The National
Park encompasses many lochs, rivers, Munros (mountains >3,000ft) and Corbetts
(mountains between 2,500ft and 3,000ft). Loch Lomond itself is the largest
freshwater loch in the UK, and is overlooked by Ben Lomond. Within the National
Park there are 20 Munros altogether, the highest of which is Ben More (1,174m).The Loch Lomond Shores
development is the "gateway" to the National Park,
and features shopping, cafes and leisure facilities, including interactive
exhibitions. Park Rangers are available to give you information about the
area, and recommend trails for you to explore.
The National Park is less than one hour's drive from the Sandyford Hotel
in Glasgow, and offers a wide range of outdoor activities including walking,
fishing, cycling and sailing. Many outdoor events are held in the National Park
throughout the year, and details and costs can be found in the Loch Lomond and
the Trossachs National Park website:
