The Burrell Collection is one of Glasgow's main visitor attractions, a collection
of over 9,000 pieces amassed by wealthy industrialist Sir William Burrell, a
ship owner and art collector, before the collection was donated to the city of
Glasgow in 1944. In 1963 the Burrell Collection was finally housed in a purpose
built Museum building within Pollok Country Park in the south side of Glasgow.
This eclectic collection brings together everything from Chinese porcelain
and medieval furniture to Islamic art and works by Renoir, Rodin and Cézanne.
The Burrell Museum's structure includes carved-stone doorways, and some of the
galleries are reconstructions of rooms from Hutton Castle, the former Burrell
residence. The Burrell Collection is ten minutes walk away from another popular
attraction, Pollock House.
Spacious and cozy large beds. Breakfast was fantastic, better than I've had at 5 star hotels. Staff very helpful & friendly. There is also free use of computer and coffee/tea facilities at reception, as well as a library of information leaflets about area.
